Android, iPad ads getting more clicks

Author admin    Category IT News     Tags

Ad requests and impressions for mobile ad network Millennial Media show a surge for Android devices and the iPad. Meanwhile, Apple overall is maintaining its commanding lead but has slipped a bit lately.

In its August MobileMix report, Millennial Media found that ad requests (the number of times a mobile ad is clicked on) for Android rose 39 percent since July and have shot up 996 percent since January. Ad impressions (the number of times an ad is displayed) for Google’s OS rose 7 percent from the prior month to help it capture 26 percent of all smartphone operating system impressions captured on the mobile ad network.

Motorola became the third-largest device maker on Millennial Media’s network in terms of ad impressions, as the manufacturer’s Droid handset hit No. 2 among the 20 most popular mobile phones with a 9 percent impression share. Overall, Android devices captured 6 of the top 20 spots.

The news was more mixed for Apple. Though the iPad’s August ad requests climbed 76 percent from the prior month, Apple’s ad requests remained relatively flat from July. In terms of ad impressions, Apple as a whole still leads the pack with a 28 percent share, though that’s down from 35 percent the prior month and 25.5 percent in June.

The iPhone itself continues to be the dominant smartphone on the ad network with a 48 percent share of all impressions, but that number, too, has gradually trickled down, from 55 percent in July and 56 percent in June.

Ad requests for Research In Motion grew 16 percent in August from July and have risen 93 percent since the start of the year. RIM may be eyeing Millennial Media itself as a potential acquisition, as the BlackBerry maker is reportedly shopping around for its own ad network.

aguar C-X75 is the 780bhp electric supercar we’ve all been waiting for, likely to keep us waiting (video)

Author admin    Category IT News     Tags

Ouch! It really stings to see the curvaceous spectacles that car designers can come up with, only to then find out the resulting electric speedsters are either far too expensive or nowhere near becoming a reality. Latest in this group of four-wheeled objects of desire is Jaguar’s C-X75, which roars from 0 to 60mph in 3.4 seconds, cranks out 780bhp courtesy of a quartet of electric motors and a pair of micro gas turbines, and reaches a screaming 205mph at its absolute zenith. You can go for 68 miles just on electric juice or 560 if you let the gasworks recharge the Li-ion battery pack on the go. So it’s gorgeous inside and out, it comes with swan doors, high-res LCD screens and an aluminum body, and it has less chance of being on sale than a dodo sandwich. Yep, it’s an electric supercar alright. See the C-X75 on video after the break.

Ferrari Juga Bikin Kamera

Author admin    Category IT News     Tags

Of Course Gold-Dispensing ATMs Are Coming to the States

The number of times you’ve been caught out and about without a bar of gold is set to be a distant memory—at least for Florida and Las Vegas residents, who’ll see hundreds of these ATMs installed next year.

The Emirates Palace Hotel in Abu Dhabi was the first place to install cash machines that hand out 10-gram bars of 24-carat gold bars in exchange for money, but in true American fashion similar machines will be situated on each side of the coast from next year.

A “couple of hundred” of the German machines, catchily branded “Gold to Go,” will join the 35 machines that have since been installed across the Middle East, Italy, Spain and Germany this year.

They will spit out smaller bars, at 1 and 5 gram sizes; 10 gram and 28 gram (1 ounce) bars, and international coins from countries such as South Africa, Australia and Canada, with the gold price being checked six times an hour.

RIM: QNX Akan Gantikan OS BlackBerry Secara Bertahap

Author admin    Category BB, IT News     Tags

Author admin    Category Apple, IT News     Tags

The Mansions of Modern Tech Giants

Author admin    Category IT News     Tags

The Mansions of Modern Tech Giants

My goodness, Steve Jobs‘ new house looks like it’ll be a doozy. And it’ll have to be, if he wants to keep up with the ivory castles his tech mogul cohorts have built for themselves.

Larry Ellison

The Mansions of Modern Tech Giants

The Oracle CEO put this $25 million manse up for sale back in 2005, though it’s hard to imagine why; the grounds include a koi pond that feels more like a koi lake, an authentic tea house, and other Japanophilic touches that Ellison commissioned over the years. How invested was he in remodeling? The man imported more than 500 cherry and maple trees and around 5,000 tons of boulder to get just the right effect. He’s since moved on to (relatively) smaller digs in Woodside.

Michael Dell

The Mansions of Modern Tech Giants

If an estate looks this good from Google Earth, imagine what it must be like on the inside. The $18 million home is the most expensive ever built in Texas, and the property’s 33,000 sq. ft. make it arguably the largest as well. Eight bedrooms, a conference room, indoor and outdoor pools, a view of Lake Austin; not bad for a guy who started his business out of his (presumably much smaller) dorm room.

Eric Schmidt

The Mansions of Modern Tech Giants

Schmidt has one of the more modest mansions on this list, but four bedrooms and four baths on four acres is still pretty impressive. It’s estimated to be worth $3.5 million or so, but the fact that he bought it from Ellen DeGeneres and Portia Di Rossi? You can’t put a price on that.

Larry Page

The Mansions of Modern Tech Giants

We continue our Google House Tour with co-founder Larry Page’s $7 million home that’s becoming a whole lot bigger, literally; Page last year applied for a permit to build a 6,000 square-foot home on the lot adjacent to his current residence. He’s reportedly bought up several adjacent lots over the years to bulk up his compound.

Bill Gates

The Mansions of Modern Tech Giants

Gates’s home—known to some as Xanadu 2.0—isn’t just huge (66,000 sq. ft.). And it’s not just pricey (assessed at $147.5 million). It’s also one of the most technologically advanced houses in the world. The man lives his job, with an estate-wide Windows server system. Guests wear pins that let individual rooms adjust temperature and brightness to personal preferences. It is, fittingly, the grandaddy of mansions for the grandaddy of tech giants.

asteroid berpotensi berbahaya menuju Bumi

New 1.4 Gigapixel Asteroid Hunter Finds Object Headed For Earth

The Pan-STARRS, a new 1.4 gigapixel telescope built to spot asteroids, has found a potentially dangerous asteroid headed for Earth. Luckily, we don’t have to worry just yet. It won’t hit us ’til 2098.

In October, the asteroid 2010 ST will come within four million miles of us but that’s just the teaser. The real drama begins in 2098 when there’s a slight chance that it’ll give us a little more than a love tap. Admittedly, the chances of the it hitting Earth are pretty low (and probably will only get lower over time) but if it does manage to make contact, the 150-foot asteroid will cause the same damage as a 20-megaton bomb. So, um, let’s hope not.

The bright side of the story is how early the Panoramic Survey Telescope and Rapid Response System (Pan-STARRS) spotted the asteroid (it was nearly 20 million miles away when discovered). It’s the only asteroid survey that is able to spot at such distances. The Pan-STARRS has only been around for 3 months and this is the first asteroid it has found. Pretty good start. World’s Largest Cinema Screen Played Movie From Nokia N8 Phone

World's Largest Cinema Screen Played Movie From Nokia N8 Phone

Nokia’s rolling out the punches for their delayed N8 phone. After filming the world’s smallest stop-motion video with it, they played a movie to 1,500 Swedes on the world’s largest cinema screen—through its miniHDMI port.

In Rosengård, Sweden, a screen measuring 51m x 28m in size was hitched up against a tower block so the film Prince of Persia could be projected onto it by four XLM HD30 projectors. Outputting the movie via the miniHDMI port to those projectors was the humble N8.

The previous world record for the largest cinema screen was a 1,338sq meter one erected at Pinewood Studios just outside of London, only slightly smaller than Nokia’s 1,428sq meter behemoth. [Nokia Conversations]
